Summary

Lowtown is an old stone cottage, perched on the edge of a Roman Vallum and nestled in the midst of lush green fields and majestic Northumbrian landscapes.

Lowtown has recently been fully renovated to a very high standard, having previously been unlived in for 50 years. It is bright and cosy at the same time, with underfloor heating and full insulation.

Owner Sabina Forwood does bright colours.  The ground floor is painted daffodil yellow set off by a striking lapis blue kitchen.  The cottage is filled with eclectic objet d'art and pictures.

The combination of stunning landscapes, exciting interiors, and a tranquil environment makes it the ideal holiday destination for a couple, two couples or a family.  Quiet is an adjective that will spring to mind to anyone staying in Lowtown.  The peace is only broken by the calls of plovers or curlews.  You may well spot a passing roe deer.

A garden room with floor to ceiling windows overlooks the rolling hills and striking countryside of Walltown Farm.

Lowtown has two spacious bedrooms upstairs with vaulted ceilings. One is a twin room where a dramatic floral print overlays black wallpaper and continues in the fabric adorning the blind and window seat cushions, before leading into a striking black painted bathroom.

The second bedroom, with striped apple green wallpaper complemented by a pink silk window seat, features a vast velvet bed flanked by bespoke Susi Bellamy lampshades and cushions.

Surrounded by the beauty of nature, it's the perfect place to unwind and relax. The cottage is designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings and offers a stylish and comfortable interior that is perfect for a memorable holiday experience. It’s situated right on the edge of the Roman Vallum, a piece of history on your doorstep and only a 10 minute stride up to Hadrian’s wall.

The cottage is thoughtfully designed to cater to the needs of modern-day travellers while retaining its rustic charm. The interiors are tastefully furnished with plush sofas, comfortable beds, and a fully equipped kitchen to cater to all your culinary needs. The cottage has a warm and cosy atmosphere which makes it perfect for a night in or, there is the option of taking your evening outdoors to the outdoor seating on the natural stone patio.

The area is renowned for its natural beauty, with plenty of walking and cycling trails, lakes, and forests to explore. There are also several quaint villages and towns nearby that offer a glimpse into the local culture and way of life.

In conclusion, this fabulous holiday cottage is the perfect place to unwind, relax and rejuvenate.

The Property

The space is decorated with a selection of modern pictures and objets d'art.

Utility

There is a small utility room to the right of the front door with a clothes washing machine and drier, leading into a WC.

Bedrooms

The first bedroom up the stairs on the right has twin 3' beds, a side table, a dressing table and a window seat.  It is decorated with dramatic floral wallpaper.  The bedroom leads into a striking black painted en-suite bathroom  with a large shower, basin, heated towel rail and WC.  There is storage and hanging space built-in on the landing.

Bedroom two has a king size double bed, dressing table, side tables, a window seat and built-in hanging space.  It leads into an en-suite bathroom with a bath/shower, basin and WC.

Amenities

Towels, bed linen and bathrobes are provided for all guests.

There is underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs (oil fired). There is an electric heater in the living area. Being a new conversion to modern high insulation standards, the cottage is warm in all weathers.

Wi-fi is pretty good (10Mb+) and mobile coverage is good for most providers.

Outside

There is a patio area in front of the cottage.  In warmer months outdoor furniture is provided.  There is lockable space in the boiler room for bikes and outdoor clothes.

We do not always mow all of the grass adjoining the patio in order to encourage pollinators and other insects to support this very special habitat.

Dogs

Up to two dogs are welcome with an additional charge of £25 per dog.  We will consider further dogs on request.  Please do not allow dogs on the furniture or in bedrooms.

You are in the middle of a working farm, so dogs must be kept on leads.  Please take care when walking through fields with cattle and give them a very wide berth if they have calves.  Likewise keep a good distance from sheep with lambs.

Parking

There is ample space to park two cars.
